James Thurber, "The Fairly Intelligent Fly"
A large spider in an old house built a beautiful web in which to catch flies. Every time a fly landed on the web and was entangled in it the spider devoured him, so that when another fly came along he would think the web was a safe and quiet place in which to rest.
One day a fairly intelligent fly buzzed around above the web so long without lighting that the spider appeared and said, "Come on down."
But the fly was too clever for him and said, "I never light where I don't see other flies and I don't see any other flies in your house." So he flew away until he came to a place where there were a great many other flies.
He was about to settle down among them when a bee buzzed up and said, "Hold it, stupid, that's flypaper. All those flies are trapped." "Don't be silly," said the fly, "they're dancing."

So he settled down and became stuck to the flypaper with all the other flies.

Moral: There is no safety in numbers, or in anything else.

นายคงเคราพ่อเมืองละโว้ (ลพบุรีในปัจจุบัน) ซึ่งเป็นนายกองส่วยน้ำ มีบุตรชายคนหนึ่ง ชื่อว่า นายร่วง เมื่อบิดาของเขาตาย นายร่วงก็ได้ทำหน้าที่แทนบิดา กล่าวกันว่านายร่วงนั้นมีอานุภาพวาจาสิทธิ์ว่าให้อะไรหรืออย่างไรก็เป็นไป ได้อย่างนั้น

บท แปล The Story of Phra Ruang (ลำดวน (ธนพล) จาดใจดี, นิทานพื้นบ้าน, กรุงเทพฯ: ดวงกมลสมัย 2547: 21-23)
Kongkrao, who was the governor of the city of Lawo (the Present-day Lopburi province) and whose duty was to supervise the sending of water to the Khmer capital, had a son named Ruang.
After the death of his father, he took up the position of his late father. It was said that Ruang possessed a supernatural power as he had a sacred word. So whatever he wished and said would be so.
One day at the time of sending water to the capital, Ruang realized the difficulty of carrying water in the earthenware jars as they were heavy and easily broken. So he used bamboo to weave a basket and used it instead of earthenware jar. With the power of his sacred word to seal the holes, the water did not leak out fro Having the situation with his own eyes, the Khmer officer named Nakkum who was sent to expedite the work was frightened by the supernatural power of Ruang. So he took a basket of water and hurried to present to King Phanthumsuriyawong who was the ruler of Khmer Kingdom. The officer informed the King that a man of great virtue had already been born in the city of Lawo. The King thought that the man would pose a threat to the security of his kingdom. So he immediately sent his own man to arrest Ruang whether he would be dead or alive he did not mind. After receiving a secret instruction from the King, the man dived into the earth. So he was called    “khom dam din” or the Khmer who dives under the ground.
